IT’S almost a prerequisite these days for every self-respecting boyband to have a gay member – even though many keep us waiting years to find out who.
But the guessing game is over for Britain’s Got Talent winners COLLABRO, who signed a big record deal with SIMON COWELL’s label Syco in 2014.
In an exclusive interview at Sun HQ, JAMIE LAMBERT has spoken about his sexuality for the first time — but insisted he never hid the truth.
He told me: “No one asked — I have nothing to hide from anybody. I think it’s really important that all gay people in the public eye just talk about it.
The more that happens, the more normal it becomes.
“I remember when STEPHEN GATELY from BOYZONE came out and it was a really massive deal.
“But I think nowadays it’s about being comfortable in your own skin and comfortable with who you fall in love with.
“It doesn’t make a difference whether it’s with a man or a woman.”
Single Jamie has had three relationships with men, including one long-term boyfriend.
He said: “I’ve never been with a woman. One day I met a guy at university who I ended up in a two-and-a-half year relationship with.” His bandmates have known about his sexuality since the start and have been supportive — with some good humoured ribbing along the way of course.
MATT PAGAN joked: “I completely forget. He’s only camp when he tries to run or plays tennis!”
And Jamie added: “It’s only an aspect of me, just like it’s only an aspect of these guys that they’re straight. It’s not all of who I am. I would hate for people to see me as ‘the gay one’, rather than the one who sings that line.”
Jamie’s revelation means MICHAEL AUGER is the only single member of the band looking for a lady.
RICHARD HADFIELD, THOMAS REDGRAVE and Matt are all loved up with serious girlfriends. Michael teased: “I say to the guys all the time that I don’t know how their girlfriends have stuck with them because they don’t get to see them.
“But I suppose that now we’ve made a lot of money, they will probably want to stick around!”
The band were in the studio “non-stop” since the end of BGT last month working on their debut album, which is out on July 28.
This means Jamie hasn’t been able to use his newfound fame to help find him a bloke... yet.
He said: “I’ve never been one for going on the gay scene. I don’t tend to meet people that often so I don’t know if being a celebrity is going to change that.”
Big-up to Jamie for being so open — now it’s time to enjoy all the attention.
