A WOMAN found her fiance was the perfect match as he gave her a kidney.
Doctors told Geraldine Chingosho, 22, that Aldo Cataldi was a suitable donor hours after he proposed on her birthday.
The operation was a success and the pair, both nurses, plan to marry in August.
They had been dating only a few days in 2017 when Geraldine was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
She needed daily dialysis and told Aldo, 27, to leave her so he would not be “lumbered with a sick person”.
Aldo refused and cared for her, insisting on a test as a suitable donor after all her family members proved incompatible.
Geraldine, from Leicester, who “felt suicidal” because of her illness, said: “I was stunned to find that we were a match.
"Aldo has saved my life and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.”
Aldo said: “I didn’t do it for the spotlight — but because it was the right thing to do.”
